Cano Ceres, 34, set a record of 1h29m47 seconds and was 38th out of 45 competitors.

Gold and silver went to Japan, with Toshikazu Yamanishi (before with 19.01.07) e Koki Ikeda (second, 19.1.14). The bronze medal was in the hands of the Swede Perseus Karlstrom (19.18).

The man from Tucuman participated in the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 and this was his sixth appearance at the senior world championships after Berlin 2009; Taegu 2011; Moscow 2013; Beijing 2013 and London 2017.

Cano Ceres holds the national record for the 20km walk with a score of 1:22:10 at the London Olympics on August 4, 2012, in which he finished 22nd out of 56 participants.

Congratulations and praise were given this Friday to the 20km walk specialist Kimberly Garciathe first Peruvian athlete to win a gold medal in a world championship in athletics.

The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations shared on its social networks the congratulations for the cross-country skier born 28 years ago in Huancayo, in which she inserted her photo and the mention of “Peruvian pride”.

The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP), chaired by Renzo Manyari, joined in congratulations to García on his feat on US soil.

Athlete Paola Mautino said on her Twitter account that García “has done something unprecedented in Peruvian sport”.

“An athlete with a growing career since childhood and who today has reached the top. Kimberly huge”, added her colleague and compatriot.

Bodies linked to other sports have not escaped the repercussions of the conquest of the cross-country skier.

“We cannot fail to underline the feat achieved just now by Kimberly García by obtaining the first place in the standings”, highlighted the Twitter account of Peruvian Tennis.

Kimberly García gave Peru the first medal in history at the World Athletics Championships by winning the first final of the Eugene program, the 20km walk, dominating the race from the start.

On the Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard circuit, García prevailed with a time that by the way is a new national record: 1 hour, 26 minutes and 58 seconds.

The Peruvian preceded the Polish Katarzyna Zdzieblo by 33 seconds, who snatched the silver in the last kilometer from the Chinese Shijie Qieyang, second in Doha 2019, who credited 1:27:56.
