The image went viral in seconds. After the Shareholders’ Meeting at the Independiente headquarters and as fans and members began to clash with the police, the president Hugo Moyano and the secretary Héctor Maldonado left the facilities of the Avellaneda club aboard an armored car through an rear exit, from the Bottaro gym and super guarded.

Moyano’s departure came after the budget for the 2022-23 financial year was approved in a meeting with only three members of the Board of Directors: Moyano, Maldonado and treasurer Atilio Bouza. In addition, Daniel González, the auditor, said he was present. The rest of the management did not go. Inside were 39 members of the ruling party assembly and four of the opposition.

Beyond the anger over the approved budget, the club’s members and fans have become enraged that they have demanded that the elections be held as soon as possible. The elections were scheduled for last December, but a series of legal disputes has ensured that the mandate of Moyano and company remains in force in the midst of an institutional and football crisis.

Serious incidents occurred this afternoon, with police authorities firing rubber bullets and tear gas at a core of demonstrators at the door of the clubhouse. There were ten detainees and 15 other police officers injured.

The races and general dismissal of the fans towards the containment fences placed at the headquarters of Avenida Miter 470 were born when it became known that “the ruling party has not even touched on the question of the presidential elections”.

After the incidents, which lasted more than an hour, the match between Independiente and Atlético Tucumán was suspended. The match, valid for date 10 of the Professional Football League, would be played this Saturday from 18:00 at the Libertadores de América-Ricardo Bochini stadium. This was established by Aprevide, the body responsible for the safety of sporting events in Buenos Aires, by order of the provincial Minister of Security, Sergio Berni.

This was decided by Aprevide, the body responsible for the safety of sporting events in Buenos Aires, by order of the provincial minister of security, Sergio Berni.

“The suspension seems wise to us for the possible problems that may arise on the field. I have discussed it with Claudio Tapia and the guarantees are not given”, said on La Red radio Eduardo Aparicio, head of Aprevide.
