the president of Atletico Tucumán, Mario Leitosubmitted a request to the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) to play the suspended game against Independiente, but without an audience and in another constituency to “ensure the safety” of the delegation.
Consulted by this journal, in the Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (APREVIDE), they considered Leito’s proposal as a possibility, while not revealing that other variables could be applied.
“Regarding Aprevide’s decision to suspend tomorrow’s match between Independiente and Atlético Tucumán, I want to say that we asked that the match be played behind closed doors and in a stadium outside Avellaneda to ensure the safety of our delegation,” he wrote in the first paragraph of a thread he posted on Twitter.
“We will defend, as always, the rights and interests of our club. Beyond this, we understand the situation experienced on the day of the appointment and we are in solidarity with the people of Independiente”, concluded the deputy also nationally.
APREVIDE announced the suspension of the match, which would be played this Saturday from 18:00 to 22:00 of the Lega Calcio Professionals at the Libertadores de América-Ricardo Enrique Bochini stadium, when there were still clashes between the Independiente fans and the Police, near the registered office.
On Saturday afternoon, the head of the agency under the provincial Ministry of Security, Eduardo Aparicio, will meet in Afa to determine the date on which the match will be played.
The suspension is explained by clashes between Independiente fans and the police, after the shareholders’ meeting approved the budget for the current year and did not pronounce on the elections in the club.
As a result of the riots, there are 10 inmates and 15 injured police officers, as well as a TN cameraman who received a rubber bullet in his right leg and two C5N press officers who were attacked by a group of fans.
