Independiente sees the light at the end of the tunnel: there was an agreement and the date of the elections is already known

Moyano (to be confirmed), Doman and Rudecindo are the candidates for the presidency of Independiente.

What all Independiente fans and members were clamoring for has finally been resolved: the postponed election date will be October 2nd. The team will play away against Arsenal that weekend.

This was organized on Wednesday in a key meeting held by the representatives of the three participating lists with the members of the Electoral Council at the headquarters of Av. Miter, whose entrance and surroundings were kept fenced and manned by an over-security operation which consisted of more than 200 soldiers between the Police, Gendarmerie and Special Forces of Buenos Aires, although there was no request for people.

This decision kept the entire Avellaneda institute in suspense, stuck in a political conflict for almost eight months, which aggravated the crisis that was already suffering economically and in sport.

The elections were supposed to have taken place last December, but the group proposing Fabián Doman as presidential candidate has been challenged by the (pro-government) Council. From there the Justice came into play, which a couple of weeks ago ordered with the ruling of the House of Lomas de Zamora that the opposition list of the journalist and TV presenter had the credentials and could participate.

The conclave lasted almost two hours as there was a debate between the parties on the date of the vote. The Council (with four of its six members present) tried to extend the terms due to the opposition’s insistence that elections be held in August. And the official position has ended up prevailing, which will first have to approve the budget for the three-year period 2021-2022 and the electoral list, which has more than 50 thousand ballots enabled to vote, will also have to be updated. For this reason, the opposition has signed with disagreement.

Opposition candidates confirmed: Doman will run for Unidad Independiente and Claudio Rudecindo for Gente de Independiente. The big unknown is knowing what the current president, Hugo Moyano, will do. Have you abandoned your application?

The leader of the Truckers himself was the one who questioned his participation. His list has suffered a few casualties, including his vice presidential candidates: Marcelo González and Manuela Sánchez. In principle, the elections should be with the same components as the lists presented at the end of 2021, but since so much time has passed, it has been discussed whether changes would be allowed, which the ruling party proclaims and that the opposition is against it, except resignation.

For the moment, next Tuesday at 16:00, the electoral calendar will be defined and whether or not changes to the lists will finally be allowed. From now on, the mere fact of having set an election date will bring some calm to the frenetic social climate that Independiente is experiencing. A certainty finally, after so much uncertainty.
