As of February 13, 2022, just 55 days ago, Scottie Scheffler has never won a PGA Tour title., the mecca of golf. However, in this short period, which is often not enough to make a simple decision, history has changed for this young man who was born 25 years ago in Ridgewood, New Jersey. It was that this 1.91 -meter giant wore the traditional green jacket reserved for the Augusta Masters winners, after closing out the final round in silence after the fall of Australian Cameron Smith and the distant threat of a resurgence. that of Rory McIlroy, that he was ultimately second.

Despite the nerves at the end where he came from the hypothetical thirteen under par to a 10 under par after the nerves attacked him on the green of the 18th hole, this coronation was automatically transforms him as an aspiring legend. This is the result of less than two angry months where he not only took the first Major of the season, but before that he won three victories on the major circuit and took by storm the number one in the world which for 36 weeks was held by Spanish Jon Rahm . Amazing.

The story of golfer Scheffler was born when he moved to Dallas. His stature led him to try his hand at basketball at Highland Park High School. However, when he got to the University of Texas, he switched to golf. There, between 2014 and 2018, he began to stand out in the sport that now has him as king. He helped the varsity team win the Big 12 championship three times and was even honored as the best player of his age when he won the Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year in 2015.

Of course, not surprisingly: in 2013 he already won the US Junior Amateur. And in 2016 he qualified to play his first US Open, which he failed to achieve after a hopeful first-round 69. Competitive to the max, he played that Major again in 2017 and in that case he wasn’t the only one to make cut -only two amateurs made it-, but he finished the course with a shot below par to be the best rookie in the tournament. Wow if promised.

Driven by his very interesting amateur career, Scheffler took his place in 2019 to enter the professional circuit from below. In May, he recorded his first success on Web.com, now called Korn Ferry in love with its current sponsorship, the PGA Development Tour. It was on the second playoff hole after an intense fight with Marcelo Rozo, who led the entire weekend. A display of restraint.

And three months later, in August, he signed an impressive card of twelve shots under par to win Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course, a tournament that was part of the circuit finals, and gave him the necessary points to not not only to be the Player of the year of the season, but also to get a card to participate in the PGA Tour. All meteoric as seen.

Already in the major leagues, Scheffler has begun to show that he will be a fierce opponent. In August 2020, he finished fourth in the PGA Championship, another of the Majors on the circuit, which allowed him to pocket more than half a million dollars in prizes. A few days later, with full confidence in his game, he was a shot away from setting a new tour record when he posted a 59-hit card (-12) in The Northern Trust tournament. This is the second lowest round in PGA history. Amazing.

In 2021, where he finished 18th at Augusta, 7th at the US Open and 8th at the British Open, he earned a place to play the traditional Ryder Cup that season. The United States won and Scheffler scored a huge victory in the heads-up match with Rahm on the final day of competition. That pandemic year seemed calm before the storm.

His story is just good, but this young prodigy still has a pending issue to win the PGA Tour. And it’s all put together by 2022.

On Feb. 13, he won the WM Phoenix Open in the third hole of the sudden death playoff against Patrick Cantlay. Three weeks later, he earned his second career PGA Tour title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. He won by one stroke against Viktor Hovland, Billy Horschel and Tyrrell Hatton.

And within another three weeks, he clinched the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas, beating Kevin Kisner in the final match. “Dream to win in front of my friends,” he said after the coronation in his adopted city. Pure heavy metal in vegetables.

With this victory, Scheffler became the number one in the world he conquered when he arrived in Augusta, where he came as a favorite despite the fact that all the spotlights were pointing to the return of the legendary Tiger Woods.

So he became the sixth youngest player to reach the top of the men’s classification. In 25 years, 9 months and days, he was surpassed only by his countrymen Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Rahm himself. And this Sunday he joined another select lot: only five times in championship history the number one in the world has worn a green jacket. But this, it is known, is not a race of precocity, but of resistance and great victories like the Augusta Masters that the noble golf giant has won.

A practicing Christian and super believer, Scheffler has been married since 2020 to Meredith Scudder, his high school sweetheart, the same one of whom the number one in the golf world is still torn between basketball and golf.

When they got to Highland Park, the university pushed them away, but they didn’t separate. While Scheffler attended the University of Texas, Scudder began studying at Texas A&M University, the Contra, where he studied Communication.

The couple remained close even though Scudder spent some time in Zambia, where he interned. Once back in the United States and in Scheffler’s first year as a professional, they decided to get married.

“YES! I can’t believe God gave me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with. I can’t wait to be your wife Scottie !!!! Admire the faithfulness and goodness of the Lord to us. Let’s do it !!! ” Scudder wrote on his Instagram account.

Scheffler has three sisters: Callie, Sara, and Molly. Callie played golf at Texas A&M, Meredith’s university, and became her caddy when she competed in those two US Open amateur appearances.

In his spare time, he is actively involved with Triumph Over Kid Cancer, an organization created by his childhood friend, James Ragan, who passed away at the age of 20. Now, wearing a green jacket, this noble giant is leaving basketball. to make golf history and he can help a lot more.
