The Marplatensians Florence Borelli Y Bethlehem Little housethe best Argentine long distance runner of the moment, he had a remarkable performance on the track at the University of Memphis, Tennessee, United States.
It was during the sixth edition of the Ed Murphey Classic tournament: they both ran under 9 minutes in the 3,000 meters, and in Borelli’s case he again broke the South American record for that distance.
The winner of the test was the American Ely Heines with 8m.48s.06. Borelli escorted her with 8m.53s.89, thus improving the national and South American top of 8m.59s.10 she had conquered last April 16 in Mar del Plata, when she became the first athlete in our region to break the barrier of the 9 minutes.
In third position the American Ejore Susan with 8m55s25 and fourth, showing great self-improvement, Casetta appeared with 8m55s96. In this way, Belén becomes the second South American under 9m, in a test where her best record was 9m26 39 for three years in Cáceres, Spain.
Belén has the national top of the 3,000 hurdles and had just participated in this specialty for the third consecutive time at the World Championships (Flor did it in 5,000).
Notable progress
Florencia Borelli had also competed at Eugene’s World Championships last week, on 5,000 meters, although, hit by the intense heat, she could not get close to her best records (she had set the national record in Manchester the previous month). However, her progress on all distances over the past year has been remarkable, both on the track and on the road, setting national records from 10km to the marathon here. And she shines for her victory in the Ibero-American in Torrevieja (Spain), in May.
Casetta also triumphed at the Ibero and recovered the athletic condition that, five years ago, brought her to the forefront in the 3,000 meters hurdles.
