It was a turbulent Sunday. Sarmiento did not want to be outdone by Patronato, who had previously beaten Boca in Paraná, and struck right in Monumental by beating River 2-1 appealing to a tough defense. Marcelo Gallardo’s men were trapped in the bolt and in the contraptions (cut with fouls, time, etc.) of the rival and could not add up the third consecutive victory to climb the rankings.

Israel Damonte took note of this. He will have seen that lapidary 7-0 that River gave him to Junín on April 30 a dozen times. And he has prepared the game for this date with all possible precautions, in the first place, to avoid going over such a piece of paper. And, afterwards, so as not to lose and, why not, take something from the Monumental. The planning of him led to a perfect first part of the Green.

Everything went well for Sarmiento, who did not detach himself from the script that his coach wrote even for a moment. The 4-5-1 was the draw that seriously complicated things for a River who had planned to enjoy a new win with no problems at home and with the stands full. Everyone runs, everyone scores, even Lisandro López, the only lighthouse left upstairs in solitude who also had to cross the ball line when the club helped him in recovery.

Cutting the circuit to those led by the Doll was the premise of the visitors. They took it to heart and respected the letter. So much so that their last line went from four to six men when Guido Mainero and Yair Arismendi came down from the wings.

Patience and mobility – a lot of mobility – River must have had to unlock the difficult positioning of his opponent, who was willing not to let him play at any time. Patience had the landlord. Because he handled the ball and got tired of touching it from side to side to see if he could find a few free inches through which to filter the ball. However, River lacked more movement, whose footballers hardly broke structures.

When someone was encouraged to break out of the box, the Millionaire’s most interesting and dangerous play was seen: Agustín Palavecino left his left inside position and suddenly appeared on the right. It all ended in a bottom-up center that Miguel Borja was unable to connect. Given the lack of ideas and possibilities to step on the overcrowded area of Sebastián Meza, River searched through some shots from outside. First Borja, then Palavecino.

Crossing the midfield for Sarmiento was like crossing the Andes on horseback because all his players were dedicated to defense. But Mainero became San Martín when he shot diagonally behind David Martínez to chase Fernándo Martínez’s deep pass and cross before Franco Armani’s exit. The ball hit the post and went in. And the field was stunned.

While Gallardo’s double nine, made up of Borja and Lucas Beltrán, is not among the many green jerseys, Mainero with his speed exploits the open spaces of the host defense. Licha López teased Rodrigo Aliendro with a pipe in the center circle. The attacker raises his head and clears the game for Mainero, who looks for him and pulls the shot even with a man on top. Armani takes him to the corner. And from that corner kick came the winning jump of Federico Andueza, who beat David Martínez and headed the second, while the goalkeeper was left in the middle because he was about to leave and regretted it.

Disbelief took over all of River, who could not explain how Sarmiento had given him two precise hits in two arrivals.

Gallardo shivered and overturned everything for the second half: he sent in Nicolás de la Cruz and José Paradela and eliminated Elías Gómez and an unproductive Aliendro for the 3-3-4. Even so, Mainero was still uncontrollable and his shot almost ended the night, but it hit Armani’s right post squarely.

After that new scare, River reacted. Juanfer Quintero came in and from the center of him came the discount for a hairstyle by Emanuel Mammana. The Colombian and his brushstrokes have finally managed to untie the Sarmiento knot. But there he remained, with no more lucidity, no more answers; with an unexpected defeat.
