Bolt Mobility Electric Scooters, the electric skateboard rental company founded by the multiple Olympic champion Usain Bolt and is based in Atlanta, suddenly ceased operations in the United States.

What is striking about this is that A few months ago it became known that the Jamaican had raised $ 40.2 million with this venturealong with an undisclosed investment from India’s Ram Charan Company.

This initiative was presented in May 2019 as a solution to the traffic problem in big cities, with a funny spot where you can see “the fastest man in the world”, as they chose to call him, taking one of the scooters after got stuck between the cars with a taxi.

It also emerged as an idea of committing to the environment. “The air quality is getting worse and I think now is the time to do something about it.. That’s why I’m so proud to be a consultant and investor in Bolt Mobility electric scooters, a means of transportation that will truly change the way people move. “

At first it was a real success and the huge profits they brought back attest to it. However, a report from the US site “The Verge” detailed this operations have stopped in several cities in the United States such as Portland, Oregon, Burlington, Vermont, Richmond and California.

The sudden demise of the service left a large number of scooters unusable and scattered around the cities in their wake. In recent years he was growing and had acquired the electric skateboard company “Ojo Electrics”which had merged with another rental company of the same category, Gotcha, in 2019.

Portland, meanwhile, suspended permission to operate there last month after the company failed to do so “provide the city with up-to-date insurance or pay any outstanding taxes”, as reported by the English newspaper Deccan Herald.

In turn, Robert Goulding, head of public information for the Burlington Department of Public Works, was blunt: “All our contacts with Bolt and his executive director have remained silent.” Furthermore, from 11 June no more posts are seen on the official Instagram account, while the last post on Twitter dates back to the 2nd of the same month.

Bolt, for his part, did not comment on the doubts that have been installed around the Bolt Mobility Electric Scooters. In his social networks, the incomparable athlete continues with his life and in addition to showing videos of his young children or celebrating personal occasions such as his mother’s birthday, he announced his latest feat.
