The moment when the lifting of the San Miguel bankruptcy after 16 years is announced.
This Thursday, August 4, 2022, will be remembered forever in the history of Club Atlético San Miguel. After 16 years, the institute got rid of a ballast: it was declared bankrupt. And precisely in the centenary year, which is celebrated on Sunday, it belongs again to the members. A great reason to celebrate.
A delegation of club representatives, led by Fernando Inzaurraga, officially announced the lifting of the bankruptcy, after 16 years of judicial intervention after Judge Mercedes Fernández (head of court number 3 of the civil and commercial courts of San Martín) signed the resolution that allowed the bankruptcy to be lifted. And now the institute will begin a new path to “give back to the club the place it deserves within the institutional and sporting plan”, according to a statement released through the social networks of Club Atlético San Miguel.
Since the club went bankrupt in November 2006, the municipality of San Miguel, then headed by Mayor Joaquín de la Torre, has played a central role in supporting the institution and, in turn, collaborating in its normalization process. This same role and responsibility have continued to this day, under the management of the current community leader Jaime Méndez.
This is what emerges from the bankruptcy ruling: “The activity manifested by a group of shareholders and the municipal manager who daily accompanied the curator’s activity to keep both the school and the sporting activity active, with the sole objective of reaching to a proposal to revoke the bankruptcy.
In the same resolution, Judge Mercedes Fernández found the legal and procedural preconditions to lift the bankruptcy, provisionally appointing a provisional board of directors until new elections are called next year.
One of the main players in this process was Fernando Inzaurraga, a municipal official who worked hard and steadily throughout this long process, with the collaboration of Hugo Reverdito, former president of the Deliberative Council of San Miguel, and many other partners who have fought tirelessly for this goal.
Of note, among these, the intervention of a group of members called “Salvemos”, who voluntarily presented themselves in front of various creditors, canceling the obligations assumed by the club.
Finally, after 16 years of hard work by the members and municipal authorities of San Miguel, the main goal has been achieved and the historically expected moment has arrived. The “Green Thunder” has lifted the bankruptcy and will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday with various acts and tributes.
