One of the attractions of 21k of Buenos Aires / OSDE, which runs on Sunday from 7, is the realization of South American Championship of that distance, in the context of the great race.

The Argentine Confederation of Athletics has designated the team of four men and four women for that championship and in recent times there will be the most outstanding long distance runners in the country.

The women’s team is led by Florencia Borelli and Daiana Ocampo, who achieved a historic 1-2 victory in the Ibero-American Championship in Alicante in May. Borelli is the 21k record Argentine woman, and all travel distances starting from 10 km. until the marathon. And it comes from the excellent performances on the track, such as the South American record of 3,000 flat meters that he broke last week in Memphis, with 8m.53s.89.

She is also the holder of the national track record of 5,000 meters, which she set last June in Manchester, Great Britain, the same distance she just competed in the Eugenio Mondo.

Diana Ocampo, another excellent marathon runner, has already won the 21k South American title at Asunción 2019 and also the South American marathon title that same year. Next to Florencia and Daiana will be Marcela Christina Gomez, the Argentine based in Brazil and who is completing a training cycle at the altitude of Paipa, Colombia. Marcela was the first Argentine to run a marathon under 2 hours and 30 minutes, and it was in Seville 2020 that she achieved her historic ranking for the Olympic marathon that ran last year in Sapporo. And the team will also include the cross-country skier from Tucumán Agostino Lander, winner of the 21k in Buenos Aires in 2021, which represented the national distance title.

In the men’s field, the team will be led by the two marathon runners who represented Argentina at last year’s Olympic Games in Sapporo: Joaquin Emanuel Arbe and Eulalio Muñoz. This also comes from becoming the first Argentine to complete a World Cup marathon in Eugene, Oregon. Meanwhile, Arbe took the Argentine marathon record with 2h.09m.36. last December, in its historic performance in Valencia.

Joining them will be Fabián Manrique (winner of the 21k in Buenos Aires in 2021) and Antonio Poblete of Mendoza, who scored a remarkable silver over this distance in the Torrevieja Iberian last May (although he injured himself last week that now conditions their participation). Arbe and Poblete also animated the great tribute event to Osvaldo Suárez-Walter Lemos, in June on the CENARD track, sponsored by Ñandú. There they broke legendary hour and 20km records. on the track.

The eight members of this team will also be part of the Argentine Championshipunder the 21k of Buenos Aires, which has a record number of 90 participants. And there, along with those already mentioned, the most exceptional athletes of recent times appear. Among these will be the middle distance runner Federico Bruno – holder of the national record of 1,500 meters and of the best – who returns to competitions after the virus that prevented him from participating in major international events.

The 21k of Buenos Aires has OSDE as main sponsor together with Adidas (clothing) – Turkish (conveyor) – GCBA – Gatorade / Eco (hydration).
