The skirmish that broke out last Sunday at the end of the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham for the first round of the Premier League led the Football Association (FA) to sanction the coaches of both teams, the German Thomas Tuchel and the Italian Antonio Conte, although the the extent of the sanctions made it clear who was held responsible for the act.

Harry Kane’s agonizing goal that equalized Tottenham triggered Conte’s exuberant celebration, right in front of Tuchel’s eyes. “Look at me (Look at me)”, the German protested to his colleague after the meeting, shaking his hand so he wouldn’t run away. After that face to face that will go down in history, the FA has punished both of them.

On the one hand, Tuchel was seen as the culprit of the controversial situation, for which he will be suspended for a match, as well as having to pay 41,500 euros. However, the FA has suspended the disqualification of the Teutonic manager, so, in principle, he could be present on Sunday against Leeds United. For his part, Conte received only a pecuniary sanction of 17,500 euros.

“Both Tuchel and Conte admitted that their behavior after the final whistle at Chelsea-Tottenham on Sunday was inappropriate,” the British entity underlines in its statement. “Both have asked to make their reasons known in writing. The penalties are subject to appeal and Tuchel’s disqualification has been suspended until the disciplinary commission makes his penalties available in writing,” he adds.
