They haven’t had time to turn on the computers. The clock that marked the result and time of the match had not even appeared in any of the angles of the broadcast. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight seconds. How long it took PSG to open the scoring against Lille, for the third round of Ligue 1 in France. It was five touches. Neymar takes the ball out for Verratti, Verratti returns it to Neymar, Neymar bounces for Messi and Leo throws a dagger for Mbappé behind the central defenders. Missing? The small scornful touch of the French phenomenon over humanity by Leo Jardim.
It’s that simple. This fast. One to zero for the team led by Christophe Galtier who, with that move, shares the honor of scoring the fastest goal in history. Michel Rio was just as precocious in Caen’s 3-1 win over Cannes in the 1991/92 season of French football’s top flight.
It was clearly a prepared start. Each of the interpreters knew where he had to be. Everything was accurate. Messi’s shot is spectacular, with the right effect so much that the ball was served by a very fast Mbappé, who avoided the offside and defined with a Vaseline pushed from the instep.
Was it an invention of Christophe Galtier? There is no way. Quickly, almost as soon as Mbappé scored the goal, several users started uploading goal videos made with the same start. An example came from Bournemouth, the team for which Marco Senesi now plays, and another from Sparta Rotterdam. Both have a happy ending for the teams that have risked.
It is a routine that takes the opposing team by surprise at the start, when the defensive line is usually advanced with the idea of pressing to retrieve the ball. This is how the game is prepared so that a pointer has time to dive into the void and a shooter can assist him by avoiding the defense and the opposing midfielder with a deep ball.
