An unusual moment lived Rory McIlroy during the third round of BMW Championshipa PGA tour tournament played this weekend at Wilmington Country Club.

The Northern Irishman did not like the interference on the playing field of a fanatic who, in full competition, threw a remote controlled ball on the green of the 15th hole. Annoyed by the “joke”, the former world number one took the electronic ball – after several attempts – and threw it into the water, generating the applause of the audience and the anger of the intruder, who lost his toy.

The sequence was very curious. When McIlroy reached the 15th hole, ready to hit his putt to add a birdie to his card, he found three balls on the green: his own, that of his companion, Scott Stallings, and a third that seemed to move with will. . .

Baffled, the four-time Major champion took a few seconds to realize what was happening. He did it when he saw a spectator standing at the edge of the green with a remote control in hand.

Clearly irritated, he approached the ball, which was moving towards the hole, and hit it with the putter. He deflected the ball two more times and, without patience, took it in his hands and rolled it into the pool of water that was near the green.

Fans who closely followed the incident applauded him, while the owner of the ball seemed to claim his attitude from afar. A few seconds later, the person in charge of the “prank” was removed from the premises by the security personnel, while he showed the thumbs down to the other spectators, who booed him.

The unusual situation confused McIlroy a bit, who failed to birdie and had to content himself with adding par in that hole. The Northern Irishman completed the day with a 70-stroke card (-1) that led him to equalize for tenth place with a cumulative score of -7, ahead of the final round this Sunday.
