Novak Djokovic’s season is complicated. He lost number 1 in the world rankings (he is now sixth) mainly because he was unable to defend most points in major tournaments due to his anti-vaccine position, including the current US Open in the United States. Also this Monday it has been confirmed that he too will not be with Serbia in the Davis Cup group stage to be held in Spain from 13 September.

The team captain announced it, Victor Troicki, who explained that it is “personal reasons”. “Countless times he has been with the national team, but this time he is not in a position to do so,” he told Serbian sports newspaper Sportski zurnal, without giving more details on the player’s absence.

“It’s a personal thing, his, this time he cannot play, but if we qualify for the final in Malaga in November he will join the national team”, clarified Troicki.

The truth is that, as the hours go by, various Serbian media have detailed it the reason for Nole’s absence is because she wants to be present at her brother Đorđe’s weddingscheduled in Belgrade for September 12, one day before the debut in the complex group that he will share with the hostess Spain, Canada Y South Korea.

The top two of the group will qualify for the finals of the tournament that will take place in Malaga from 22 to 27 November.

They will be on the Serbian team Myomir Kecmanovic (36), Filip Krajinovic (44), Laslo Djere (64), Dusan Lajovic (88) and Nicola Cacicthe best player in the Balkans in doubles.

With his absence from the US Open, Djokovic lost his 1,200 points as a finalist from the previous year, could drop out of the Top 10 and was heavily relegated in the fight to qualify for the ATP finals. He is currently 13th in the competition, 725 points behind Andrey Rublev in 8th, a distance that will be even greater after these two weeks of tennis in New York.

Only the September 23 to play the Laver Cup at the O2 Arena in London. Then the Masters 1000 in Paris and Shanghai would appear on his calendar and, given the small number of games played in the year, he could play an ATP 500 (Vienna or Basel, for example) to try to qualify for the Masters Tournament.

Who plays for Argentina?

On 11 August the captain William Coria gave the Argentine team the Davis Cup final which, in his case, will be played from 13 to 18 September in Bologna, Italy. The Wizard bet on Diego Schwartzmann, Francesco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez and the couple Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Zeballos for double.

Argentina will be part of Group A and will face them Sweden on September 13, will have to face Italy on the 16th and they will close their participation in the group stage on the 17th against Croatia.

The last time Argentina played this instance was in 2019, when they fell in the quarter-finals against Spain. The Argentine team, champion in 2016, qualified for the March Finals by beating the Czech Republic 4-0 at home, in the series played at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.
