Destiny wanted it Hugo Benjamin Ibarra had his first Super classic as DT of Boca on 11 September, the teacher’s day. And Negro, in his first major trial by fire since he inherited the position that belonged to Sebastián Battaglia, came out the winner. He did his homework, beat Gallardo’s River and “was received” by DT, as they say now.
“I hope you win the match … How do I see myself on Sunday at 7 pm? With joy, as now, I hope so, ah …”, Formosan said in the previous one, with his smile and his simplicity , registered trademarks. And that’s what his Boca played, without mysteries, with the premise of looking for the opponent’s goal and scoring every time River became the master of the ball. Too little, it is true, but in tune with this period of lean cows in Argentine football.
Boca arrived diminished, it can be said. Gallardo himself recognized as an advantage the fact that Sebastián Villa, always decisive in these games, was not available for the Superclásico. To the absence of the Colombian was added that of an Exequiel Zeballos who was preparing to have an excellent semester until that brutal kick that sent him to the operating room. Xeneize also suffered from the football and emotional crisis of the team’s three strikers: Darío Benedetto, Luis Vázquez and Nicolás Orsini, in that order.
Ibarra, together with Pompei and Gracián, his technical staff, did not need to think too much about it to throw the boy Luca Langoni on the field, to score. And with the primary idea of playing close to Armani, he opted for the verticality of Juan Ramírez and the deployment of Martín Payero, the latter always careful to watch the steps of Enzo Pérez. Alan Varela and Pol Fernández were already fixed in a midfield that had the mission of controlling River and unbalancing in attack but that in the first half could only realize the first half of the plan.
Those at the bottom were very concerned about scoring and little about raising, with Luis Advíncula waiting for Milton Casco’s raises and a Frank Fabra who missed his compatriot Villa terribly. Marcos Rojo and Nicolás Figal contributed to the speed and cut. In the only failure, from above, Agustín Rossi appeared with one of those saves that are remembered with the set of results.
Gallardo was the one who in the first half confirmed the good of Ibarra’s approach: he kicked the scoreboard and made three changes in the interval, changing the scheme with which he could not surprise Boca at the Bombonera. Borja, Barco and Aliendro entered; there was also an advantage in favor of the millionaire. Many changes ended up being favorable to the locals, who played the second half with the same momentum and the same limitations.
“We have the plus of the people,” said Ibarra, who never lost every time he had to cross Gallardo as a footballer. And in his first duel as DTs he went away again with a victory, the one he dreamed of this week. It was a 1-0 as short as it was deserved for a humble, pungent and selfless Boca, attributes that Ibarra was able to instill in this ailing team and a lot of humor.
