Banfield is running a mediocre campaign, in the center of the table. However, in this tournament Professional football championship he had the luxury of winning at the Bombonera and the Monumentale, something he had never achieved. Even, since 1940 few teams have celebrated in both stadiums in the same league.

El Monumental was inaugurated on May 26, 1938. Almost two years later, the first game was played in La Bombonera on May 25, 1940. Both River and Boca have had a low percentage of games lost since then. It wasn’t easy for the other big teams, except for the small teams. In 82 years it has happened 27 times and Banfield became the 16th team to win the same tournament in both stadiums. Independiente and Vélez are the only ones to have done it four times.

The first to win both scenarios in the same tournament was Independiente in 1948. And just 41 days away. On 19 September they beat Boca 2-1 and on 31 October River 4-3. It was just before the professional strike was declared, which lasted five months, and the last five dates were played with inferior players. Red was still champion.

After that first time, the double celebration repeated three times: in 1954, 1988/89 and in the 2009 Apertura. The only one who managed to match Rojo’s feat was Vélez, who won the Bombonera and Monumental at the Metropolitan in 1971, 1973, 1980 and in the 2008 Apertura.

In 1949, Racing and Newell had it. The Academy won 1-0 in River on September 18 and 2-1 in Boca on November 23, when he was crowned champion of the tournament. That meeting started on October 30 but was suspended due to incidents with eleven minutes left. Wednesday 23 only eleven minutes were played and there was an Olympic comeback. It was the only time that Racing was able to win on both courts in the same tournament.

The team of the Rosario, in 1949, won 2-1 first at the Bombonera and with the same result at the Monumentale. Furthermore, he is the only one to have obtained it in two consecutive tournaments: 1986/87 and 1987/88. The sequence began on November 23, 1986, 3-0 at the Bombonera; then, 2-1 at River on March 14, 1987; 5-1 at Boca on 25 October 1987; and 2-1 at River on December 20, 1987.

In the 1950s, in addition to Independiente, he also won the Ferro in 1952 and the San Lorenzo in 1952 and 1959. In the 1960s, the most curious thing was what happened in Los Andes in 1961. Recently promoted, Milrayitas surprised Boca at La Bombonera on the fourth round, played on 7 May, and defeated them 1-0. And on November 5, on the verge of losing the category, he beat River 2-1 at Monumental.

Also in 1961, Gimnasia won in both stages. Like Atlanta 1964. In the 70s, among the celebrations of the Vélez mentioned, the San Lorenzo joined in 1972. In all cases it is the Metropolitan tournament, which was played in the first part of the year. Then the national teams, but in that competition it never happened.

In the 1980s there were victories for Rosario Central in 1982, Racing de Córdoba in 1983, Instituto in 1986/87 and, in addition to Newell’s and Independiente, Platense in 1988/89. In the 1990s, Argentinos joined Clausura 93 and Gimnasia in Apertura 96, when they surprised with a 6-0 win at La Bombonera.

Godoy Cruz de Mendoza was the last team to win in Bombonera and Monumental. At the first appointment of Clausura 2011, on February 13, at the debut of Julio César Falcioni as a Boca coach, Tomba wins 4-1 and on April 23, for the eleventh round, he wins 2-1 at the Monument.

Banfield has joined the select list of teams that have won at the home of the two greatest Argentine footballers in the same tournament. On 1 July, for the sixth round, he beat Boca 3-0 with goals from Giuliano Galoppo and two from Ramiro Enrique. And 2-1 this Wednesday at Monumental, with goals from Alejandro Cabrera and Julián Palacios.
