The Argentine women’s volleyball team, Las Panteras, debuts this Sunday in the Netherlands-Poland 2022 World Cup against a complicated rival like China, in the city of Arnhem, 90 kilometers from the Dutch capital Amsterdam.

The match, broadcast by ESPN and the Star + platform, began with a combative participation of the Albiceleste, who fell in the first set of 25-23in a group D that also integrates Brazil -Second classified Olympic-, Japan, Colombia and the Czech Republic.

The Panthers, 22nd in the world rankings, face the competition with the aim of reaching the round of 16, so they must be among the top four teams in their area.

This edition will be the seventh World Cup in the history of the Argentine women’s team. The best result obtained by a national team of this level was in Brazil 1960, at its first participation, when it obtained one victory (3-1 against Uruguay) and two defeats (3-0 against Japan and against Poland), finishing third in Group A, he did not pass to the second phase, but he finished eighth in the overall standings.

Since then he has not managed to overcome the 15th position, which he occupied in China 1990. In the last two editions, Italy 2014 and Japan 2018, he placed 17th and 19th respectively.

Those directed by Hernán Ferraro come from an international preparation competition in which he recorded three wins (Canada 3-2 and 3-2 and France 3-1) and three defeats (Japan 0-3, Colombia 0-3 and Belgium 1- 3).

The calendar of Las Panteras matches at the World Cup will continue as follows: Brazil (Monday 24, 13:30); Czech Republic (Wednesday 28, 13:00); Colombia (Friday 30, 13:00) and Japan (Sunday 2 October, 9:15).

The Argentine squad of the competition is made up of Victoria Mayer and Sabrina Germanier (setter); Erika Mercado and Bianca Cugno (in front); Emilce Sosa, Bianca Farriol, Candelaria Herrera and Brenda Graff (center); Yamila Nizetich, Daniela Bulaich, Candela Salinas and Lucía Verdier (top receivers) and Tatiana Rizzo and Agostina Pelozo (swingers).
