The Uruguayan team had a week to forget. Those led by Diego Alonso clashed with Iran in a duel in preparation for the World Cup in Qatar, and there were more doubts than certainties. The Uruguayans not only fell 1-0, but also suffered a blow that could be decisive from an emotional point of view.
There were seconds to the start of the match, when one of the ‘Celeste’ figures felt annoyed and triggered the alarm. This is Ronald Araujo, Barcelona’s ‘charrúa’ defender, who suffered an injury to his right adductor early in the game. After much speculation, Barça broke the news: the defender is “an avulsion of the adductor longus tendon of the right thigh”.
With this, one of Uruguay’s best players is practically left with one foot out of the World Cup, as it will start in 55 days, and Araujo’s injury would require – in the most optimistic of cases – 45 days of recovery. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that in the next few hours the defender will travel to Finland, where he will be operated on.
Sara He underwent surgery this Wednesday by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the medical services of the Catalan club. Regarding recovery times, from Barcelona they added: “At the end of the operation a new medical certificate will be issued”.
His presence at the World Cup is unknown, and as far as we might know the operation has to do with a decision by the player himself. On the table were two options: surgery or conservative treatment to avoid the operation. Araujo has chosen the latter, which in the long run could be more effective, but at the moment it will extend the recovery time.
The truth is Everything indicates that the defender could miss the World Cup, so Alonso is already starting to have his first headaches in the Qatar preview. For the poor performance the team showed against Iran, add the loss of one of the few fixed of the starting team.
