Something similar happened on Instagram, where several million messages were recorded mentioning the blackout on the messaging platform.
WhatsApp is a new global fall
Meta’s own instant messaging application suffered accidents around the world during the early hours of this Tuesday, according to Downdetector’s real-time tracking page.
“User reports indicate that WhatsApp has been experiencing problems since 09.17 (4.17 Argentine time),” said DownDetector.com, which collected thousands of alerts from internet users, who after 6am started notifying the service was back up and running. .
In Germany, for example, more than 200,000 incidents have been reported, while in the UK nearly 70,000 have been reported and in Spain more than 30,000.
“We know that people have been having trouble sending WhatsApp messages today,” a Meta source said, noting: “We have solved the problem and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
The platforms of the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, the social networks Facebook and Instagram, in addition to the messaging services WhatsApp and Messenger, have already been victims of a massive blackout unprecedented last year.
The duration and extent of this disruption of four services used by billions of people made it a major accident, to the point that DownDetector identified it as “the largest ever” on social media.
Facebook then acknowledged that the blackout was due to a mistake on your part and not a technical problem.
Alternatives to chat when WhatsApp is inactive
As is often the case with any technical problem, it is common for users to be overwhelmed with worry and frustration, quickly looking for other messaging platforms so as not to lose contact with friends, family and colleagues.
One of them is Telegram, a messaging and voice over IP application created in 2013 by brothers Nikolai and Pável Dúrov. It promises greater privacy in the encryption of messages, facilitates better management of stickers and groups and among other features allows the use of messages that are destroyed after a certain time, without leaving traces.
Another alternative app is Signal, developed by Open Source Systems, the company behind the end-to-end encryption used by WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. It is open source, offers self-destructing messages, and prevents screen capture. Plus, it has encryption for all your backups, including chats, pictures, and calls.
There is also Discord, based in San Francisco and with more than 100 million users, and known for its free service that mainly allows gamers to communicate via video, voice and text, and Skype, a Microsoft product designed for both. conversations between two people as well as for group conversations.
IPhone mobile phones, as well as iPod or iPod touch, have their own messaging application: iMessage. From this platform and as a service offered by Facebook, users can send texts, photos or videos in the same way as WhatsApp.
