But beyond this war between giants, options are also beginning to emerge that seek to appeal to a specific audience. digital natives.

One of the latest developments is the appearance of Flixxoa free access platform developed in Argentina and offering series with episodes 5 to 15 minutesfrom an extensive catalog, with material from the best microseries festivals in the world.

In turn, the service represents a viable alternative to YouTube for digital content creators as well an innovative proposal in the world of streaming outside of platforms such as Netflix, Amazon or Disney +.

Being designed for “digital natives” between the ages of 14 and 24, who in many cases cannot access a credit card, the platform rewards social interactions with credits – like in a video game -, consumption of advertising and content.

“The starting point for Flixxo was the question:How will children who are 10 today consume content when they are 15? “says Adrián Garelik, current CEO and one of the creators of this service.

For these cases, this online community offers a token or cryptocurrency (flixx) to spend watching content on-site or off-screen. Beyond a video platform, they seek to create a collaborative economy.

Like many other tokens, flixxs can be traded on crypto platforms for traditional money (pesos, dollars) or other digital currencies, such as Bitcoin.

Another distinctive feature of Flixxo is that tries to be ecological and sustainable. Instead of being hosted on centralized servers, the microseries are hosted on the devices of everyone who wishes to participate.

This way of redistributing content, similar to BitTorrent’s “peer-to-peer” file exchange, results in energy savings of up to 95% in information distribution.

Another differential of this platform is that it produces and shares content from influencers and youtubers, who, beyond what they generate for their networks, find in Flixxo a channel suitable for their type of audience.

The Flixxo library has a wide variety of titles available, including some self-produced, others acquired by developers, festival winners around the world, and even those uploaded to the community by users.

The term Flixxo alludes to “flicker”, as the films were called due to the flicker that the projectors produced when the short films were shown.

Other alternatives to Netflix

Something more amateurish, Tubi TV, is a free portal that offers LIVE content, through On Demand, in which advertising is interspersed.

Another alternative is PlutoTV, a platform founded in 2014 that has more than 250 free live channels.

Like the previous one, it contains advertising in all its broadcasts. To use it, simply enter the platform’s website and tune into the channel you want to watch, without registering.
