Digital Scents: Smell simulation, the next step in virtual reality

China considered virtual reality to be extremely important in the coming years. A technology that over the years is still evolving, so much so that the Asian giant has included it in a ambitious odor simulation project under a national plan.

According to a report posted on the website of The computer bakerthe giant of the east has made public the aforementioned plan to promote new developments around the virtual reality industry.

Among the objectives is to commercialize 25 million VR devices a year in 2025. They also ask for the creation of 10 virtual reality parks, where the applications of this technology are studied, 20 scenarios in which virtual reality can be used and, finally, 100 cases of applications integrated in virtual reality.

The Chinese government has also called for research into technologies that can enhance the virtual reality experience to more immersive levels.

The report adds that the Chinese could explore the ability to analyze the gestures we make, track eyes, capture body movements or facial expressions, simulate touch, smells, among many others.

Another innovation that could be leveraged in China is the ability to run 5G content with faster connections between the VR headset and devices.

About odor simulation, China has ensured that it will allocate resources to make it and that VR devices, with applications dedicated to tourism or safety exercises, will allow the user to capture the different smells.

China also plans to implement its virtual reality agenda in the next few years and complete it by 2026. It includes other goals, such as VR glasses with next-generation panels: 8K screens with 60Hz refresh rates and, moreover, mini screens 4K.
