The reporters’ sudden suspension comes a day after Musk permanently banned an account that tracked his flights on private jets using publicly available data.

In parallel, Twitter changed its rules on Wednesday to prohibit sharing another person’s current location without their consent.

Many of the suspended journalists had written about that new policy and the reasons Musk had imposed it. As they suggested, the reasons had to do with allegations from him about a sexual assault incident that affected his family Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Aaron Rupar He is one of those who have suffered the loss of account. He is a freelance journalist who has been covered by nearly 800,000 people interested in US politics. Together with him, six other communicators lost their Twitter profiles.

“Initially, I thought I was being trolled. I have no idea what rules I allegedly broke”Rupar told his account Substack, a newsletter subscription platform.

Elon Musk suspended the Twitter account that tracked his private flights

Chirping Resigned @ElonJeta popular automatic account (bot) that recorded all the movements of the private plane of Elon Muskthe billionaire owner of the platform.

The owner of the account, Jack Sweeney, a freshman at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, had been in trouble because Musk told him earlier this year that the account put his personal safety at risk.

@ElonJet is one of 15 flight tracking accounts Sweeney created, run by bots that he programmed to analyze the data and tweet every time a specific plane takes off or lands. Each follows a high-profile person, almost everyone in tech, including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

“Account Suspended: Twitter suspends accounts that violate Twitter rules,” the caption now reads when you try to log into it. Over the weekend, Sweeney claimed an anonymous Twitter employee told him the company had severely limited @ElonJet’s visibility starting December 1st.

This sparked discussion, as Elon Musk is a self-proclaimed defender of free speech, but he argued that the account is dangerous to his safety.
