The laptops They are one of the most sought-after products on online shopping sites. However, choosing one can be an ordeal: processor, disk, RAM and other parameters can raise the price to staggering numbers. But there is a range between 140 and 175 thousand pesos which makes up the list of best-selling equipment on the largest e-commerce site in Latin America. And that satisfyas long as usages and expectations are taken into account.

When choosing a notebook there is one key question: what will it be for? It’s not the same to do just office tasks (word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing, email) as photo and video editing, for example.

For this reason the amount of memory and the processor are determining factors in the final price, even if not the only ones.

Experts agree that the The RAM standard today is 8 and, in many cases, that this may fail. Especially if we take into account that the most used operating system (OS) is windowsa “RAM-hungry” operating system.

A PC with 4GB of RAM is a warningIt is a warning sign because it could be an old computer, a discontinued platform, that amount of memory is completely insufficient even for the most basic tasks, especially since 8GB of RAM is a bit small for home or today’s office,” he argues clarion Germán Loureiro, technology manager at Kingston for Latin America.

“Average memory usage in general is around 10-12 GB, with which the current standard is 16 gigabytes. The recommendation is go for 16 And if there are budget limits, it’s fine to start with 8 but with an eye already focused on making it as soon as possible to raise it to 16”, he explains.

With that in mind, these are some of the best selling computers on the web.

Asus X515EA ($176,999 – Now 12)

Computer with 11th generation Intel i5 processor – here we already enter a question mark. With so many processors on the market, and especially new models coming out every year, it’s hard to know which option is right for you.

“The i3-12100 offers the best deal in terms of great performance and quality, at an affordable and competitive price. Its 4 cores and 8 execution threads allow you to perform the most basic daily tasks, but also to start experimenting with i games if we have a discrete motherboard like the ARC A380,” explains Germán Loureiro, a technical engineer specializing in games for Latin America at Intel.

This means that with an i3 we are probably already covered, but you always have to check what generation it is: On Intel, the first number responds to this flag.

In general, for basic office tasks, you can get by with up to Intel Celeron, Pentium or AMD Athlon, i.e. processors with fewer cores. For this reason, an i5 1135G7 with 4 cores and 8 threads is sufficient for everyday use, despite being almost 3 generations behind the next one Intel will be launching soon.

It’s a device that will allow for even heavier workloads and will run smoothly and let you run some games.

With a 15.6-inch Full HD screen (1920x1080px), it is one of the “big” teams, with a numeric keypad (not a minor detail for those who use Excel a lot).

It has 256GB of solid state storage which is another key point to consider. “Today there is no scenario where buying a mechanical drive over an SSD is justified, prices have dropped dramatically and most new equipment already comes with a Factory SSDs with capacities from 250 to 500”, explains the Kingston expert.

“Many users who purchase these laptops upgrade to 1TB input because it is no longer something inaccessible. Also, the downward trend continues, so the habit that many consumers had of buying a small SSD (250GB) and ‘pairing’ it with a 1TB HDD is also disappearing, and they are opting for a direct 1TB SSD.” , he adds.

Comes with Windows operating system.

Dell Inspiron 3515 ($151,999)

The second best-selling device is slightly cheaper because it has a lower definition screen: 1366x768px.

Equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 3450U, a processor launched in 2020 and whose usage is similar to the previous one, the device comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid state storage.

What is special about this computer is that it comes with integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics. While it is not a GPU capable of running all current games with high graphics quality, it allows you to play certain games with respectable quality . It is, perhaps, the winner of the list for itselfAdd occasional entertainment with video games.

Other than that, it’s a great option to work with.

Oryx Cloudbook 14 Smart Pro ($44,819)

The third place is occupied by a different type of equipment – a cloudbook, which is by far the cheapest of all.

Cloudbooks, popularized by Google with its Chromebooks, are computers “in the cloud,” that is, although they have internal memory, their strength is designed to work online, whether online or online. Google Drive, a drive or any web browser.

For some tasks like writing and surfing the web, they’re usually more than enough.

This particular model does raise a few caveats, though: It has a 1.10Ghz Intel Celeron N3350 processor, but the main problem is that it comes with 4GB of RAM.

In general, this is a slow team. That’s why the price difference with the rest: if many tabs are opened in Chrome, for example, it is a computer that will see a compromise in its kingperformance. It is also not recommended to use Zoom inwhich is a more resource intensive application.

Its main function, therefore, is web browsing and an online office package, without the best performance, but with a respectable experience for its price.

Lenovo IdeaPad 15IML05 ($139,999)

In fourth place is a massively sold team – Lenovo Ideapad.

With an Intel Core i3 10110U processor, i.e. of the 10th generation, it also raises the alarm on the amount of RAM: 4 GB. In this case it is advisable to expand it to 8 (an extra 4 GB slot costs around 5,000 pesos and radically improves performance). In any case, if you choose this option, should buy 4 more and expand.

It comes with the Home version of Windows 11 installed.

HP 15-dy2054la ($232,999)

In fifth place is the most expensive option, with an Intel Core i5 1135G7, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid-state storage.

The 11th generation processor makes the final price of a laptop more expensive which, moreover, It has a resolution of 1366x768px and not 1920×1080.

It doesn’t seem like the best option when you consider that the one at number 1 costs much less and, in terms of average performance, you probably won’t feel much difference. In fact, there are models with Intel’s latest i5 that hover around this cost.

“The i5-13600K is a great proposition for those who have to work and play every day, with its 14 cores and 20 threads it allows you to work on demanding tasks or play games, stream and socialize, all at the same time. If we add a Graphical ARC A770, which allows us to use the processor’s integrated graphics for streaming and discrete graphics for games, makes optimal use of resources. If we take these capabilities into account, its price-product ratio makes it unbeatable.” Loureiro explains.

Finally, Ryzen 7 and Intel i7 processors don’t usually appear in top sellers, as they are designed more for playing video games and heavy tasks like video editing.

“The i7-13700K, with its 16 cores and 24 threads, allows you to do everything we’ve seen with the i5, but adding extra performance that will be appreciated especially by those who make intensive use of demanding programs, such as design , content creation and editing“, he clarifies.

Therefore, as with almost any piece of technology, it’s best to carefully examine what it will be used for, to get the most out of the components, and not overpay. Especially in a context where prices are increasing month by month and technology is rapidly increasing.
