The first big series of 2023 premiered on the streaming platform on Sunday HBO Max. The plot describes the experiences of Joel and Elliea couple of survivors of a pandemic in the United States caused by a strain of the Cordyceps fungus, which when it infects humans turns them into cannibalistic creatures, and which is transmitted through a simple bite.

In the midst of social chaos, Joel (Peter Pascal), his daughter Sarah (Nico Parker) and his brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) leave their home in suburban Austin, Texas to avoid infection, but along the way –spoiler alert– are intercepted by an agent who kills the girl, believing her to be infected.

The series is a co-creation and was written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, one of the makers of the video game. The co-production is from Sony Pictures Television and is produced by Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Rose Lam. They also produce PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog.

The original idea for TLOF came to Neil Druckmann when he saw a BBC London documentary about ants infected with a fungus that turned them into spore-bearing zombies, who eventually used their bodies to develop until they died. .

The Last of Us: What the game that brings the series to life is like

the American study Bad Dogcreator of the successful Uncharted saga, launched the video game that served as the impetus for the current series on June 14, 2013, for many the last great Playstation 3 title before the arrival of the PS4 console.

The Last of Us is a video game with the highest graphic quality, where terror, action and adventure support the story of two characters trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

The player will take on the role of Joel, a man on the run from an epidemic that has been going on for 20 years and which has left all traces of civilization as we know it forgotten, and who will have the task of protecting little Ellie, a grown girl in a military installation.

The action begins in Boston, then takes place in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and ends on the West Coast of the United States, in a journey in which the protagonists must navigate a world without rules or laws to find the solution to this deadly virus problem.

As for the soundtrack, Naughty Dog has put all its trust in the Argentinian composer Gustavo Santaolallawho was also in charge of the video game, since Neil Druckmann publicly acknowledged his fanaticism for the two-time Oscar winner for Brokeback Mountain (2006) and Babel (2007).

Three weeks after its release, it arrived in Argentina on June 28, 2013. The Last of Us has sold approximately 3.4 million copies worldwide, and the number increased by seven million in July 2014, becoming one of the top games for PlayStation 3 best-selling in history.

The Last of Us: the cast

To bring the successful video game to the screen, Sony and HBO Max looked for a cast that would try to physically represent the game’s characters to meet the expectations, in principle, of the millions of fans.

While casting the popular Pedro Pascal (Joel) was well received by fans, Bella Ramsey (Ellie) received a lot of harassment from the internet.

In an interview with The New York Times, Bella Ramsey acknowledged that the negative comments about Ellie’s role in The Last of Us really hit her. She also admitted to feeling insecure as well he came to question whether accepting the role had been the right decision.
