Apple just introduced theirs M2 Pro and M2 Max chipstwo cutting-edge processors that bring performance and energy efficiency to the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch is one MacMini. Now these notebooks will be able to handle demanding tasks like rendering effects up to six times faster than the fastest Intel processor.

The M2 Pro, built with second-generation 5-nanometer technology incorporates 40 billion transistorswhich is 20% more than M1 Pro and double than M2.

The M2 Pro expands the M2 chip architecture with a CPU that still has two versions: one with 10 cores and one with 12 cores. Beyond these figures, Apple promises CPU performance up to additional 20% compared to the previous generation.

The GPU reaches a maximum configuration of 19 cores, three more than the 16 present in the M1 Pro. The translation, according to Apple, speaks of graphics speeds up to 30% more efficient than the M1 Pro, showing its ambition both for image processing and games.

The M2 Max has 67 billion transistors -almost 10 billion more than the M1 Max and three times that of the M2- with up to 38-core GPU, double the unified memory bandwidth and up to 96GB of unified memory.

It’s very fast, as its unified memory bandwidth of 400GB/s is twice that of the M2 Pro and four times that of the M2. The RAM capacity with which it can be configured is also very high: up to 96 MB of high-speed memory.

Its performance does the most powerful and most energy efficient chip on a professional laptop. Additionally, both chips include custom-optimized technologies such as a faster 16-core Neural Engine and Apple’s powerful media engine.

The M2 Pro is the first pro-grade chip for the Mac mini, while both chips further enhance the built-in capabilities and performance of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

Apple’s most powerful chip to date has the same 12-core CPU as the M2 Pro, while its GPU is more powerful as it can go up to 38 cores. Apple claims that the M2 Max is “the world’s most powerful and efficient professional laptop chip” and that its capabilities “handle graphics-intensive projects that other competing systems cannot.”

The two new chips have a 16-core neural engine capable of performing 15.8 trillion operations per second, up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation.

The MacBook touch screen controversy

According to data revealed by Marco Gurmanthe well-known Bloomberg journalist specialized in anticipating technological decisions, the development of models Macs with touchscreens it will soon be a reality.

If confirmed, Bloomberg’s leak would amount to little short of a betrayal of the memory of Steve Jobs, who has always refused to imagine touchscreen Macs. The Apple founder believed that tactile experience had no place in his line of computers. For this mode of use he created the iPad tablet.

What Jobs brought up years ago had Tim Cook approve some time later. The company’s current CEO said in 2012 that combining the experience of a tablet with that of a laptop was like “combining a toaster with a refrigerator.”
