Spotify takes aim at artificial intelligence: launch a personalized dj with human voice

Before the next event stream on of Spotify, in which the company is expected to announce a redesigned home feed and other updates, on Wednesday the company rolled out a new AI feature called “DJ” to better customize the music listening experience for its users.

Similar to a radio DJ, Spotify’s DJ feature will deliver a curated selection of music alongside AI-powered spoken commentary on the songs and artists you like, using what Spotify says is an “incredibly realistic voice,” they say.

The idea, the company explains, is for Spotify to get to know its users so well that the DJ can choose what to play himself when he hits the DJ button. Or, as Spotify puts it, eYou are putting an “AI DJ in your pocket”.

More broadly, the feature has the potential to turn Spotify into a “passive, relaxing experience” for those times when users don’t feel like dictating to Spotify what to stream or search for. its interface to find a playlist he likes.

Spotify says it has provided its music publishers, data experts, writers and curators with access to OpenAI’s generative AI technology to scale their insights into music, artists and genres.

The technology is being used to create “culturally relevant and accurate commentary pieces on a massive scale,” the company says. As listeners interact with the new DJ feature, they will be presented with a personalized song stream that will include the latest tracks and old favourites.
