THE federal justice ordered this week to permanently shut down a number of pirate websites that catered to the broadcast free sports events, movie premieres, series and even TV channels. Among the pages are some of the most popular platforms for watch argentinian football matches without any subscription.
The ruling blocked access to the top 30 pirate sites, including Fútbol Libre (or Libre Fútbol), televisionlibre.net and ver-television.online, platforms that allowed you to watch Argentine football for free live and live, among other audiovisual content. The latter recorded 3.1 million visits in January 2023according to Similarweb data.
The provision states that pp violate and defraud intellectual property rightsrights related to and on the transmission of ENACOM’s television signals and audiovisual contents.
The substitute judge Marcellus Bruno Dos Santos has decided to leave room for a self-fulfilling measure within the framework of the file initiated by the Alliance against audiovisual piracy (Alliance), entitled “DirecTV Argentina SA and others c/ Who is responsible for domain names s/ Self-fulfilling measure”.
THE Alliance against Pay TV piracyknown simply as “Alianza”, is a group of content providers, pay TV operators and technology providers united with the aim of combating a form of piracy known in the industry as FTA (Free to Air) piracy in Latin America.
In this sense, the magistrate ordered all Internet access providers registered with the National Communications Authority (ENACOM) to do so block access to Argentine territory to websites identified by the Alliance.
“Happy to share this result which once again positions Argentina as a state-of-the-art country in terms of protection of intellectual property rights,” said Jorge A. Bacaloni, president of “Alianza”.

Piracy in Latin America, according to data from BB Media, generates losses of more than 8 billion dollars a year for the industry in its online and traditional modes, and more than 1,700 million dollars in tax losses, considering the tax on value added.
