MSI 2023: teams, dates, results and everything you need to know about the “small world” of League of Legends

The first of the year’s big tournaments for the League of Legends video game, the Mid-Season Invitational (known by the acronym MSI), started this Monday in London, UK. The Latin American champion Movistar R7, which includes Argentinian CEOs and Lyonz plus coach Khynm, will play the first matches of the Play-In phase starting on Tuesday.

The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is the first international competition of the annual LoL Esports calendar. This type of “mundialito” is characterized by bringing together thirteen teams from nine regions in the quest for the title and the $50,000 grand prize.

The MSI has been held since 2015 and each edition allows you to evaluate the Strengths and weaknesses of the team and mid-season regions.

The event changes location every year and, on this occasion, also the creative theme. Under the motto “Defy”, the publisher of the video game Riot Games has invited its community to “have the courage to resist in the face of one’s limits. Turn a deaf ear to what the detractors say, go beyond the limits and show a provocative spirit”.

Each of the regions contributes its own champion teams, the most competitive have two odds, while the others have only one. This is how JDG Intel Esports Club (JDG) and Bilibili Gaming Pingan Bank (BLG) do it for China (LPL); Gen.G (GEN) & T1 (T1) go for South Korea (LCK), MAD Lions (MAD) & G2 Esports (G2) represent Europe (LEC) & Cloud9 (C9) & Golden Guardians (GG) they come from North America (LCS).

The other batch consists of PSG Talon (PSG) from Southeast Asia (PCS), LOUD (LLL) is Brazilian Grand Champion CBLOL, Detonation FocusMe (DFM) is from Japan (LJL), Movistar R7 recently revoked the Latin American LLA title in Chile and GAM Esports (GAM) did it in Vietnam (VCS).

The ultimate champion Real never give up, who had beaten T1 at MSI 2022 in Busan, was left without a chance to defend his title in London. the Chinese team did not reach the top of the national championship League of Legends Pro League, one of the most competitive in the world, after losing to Bilibili Gaming Pingan Bank (BLG).

The MSI has two phases: the play-in phase (from 2 to 7 May) and the Keys phase (from 9 to 14 May and from 16 to 21 May).

The first stage of the play-ins, whose matches start at 9 in Argentina, has Movistar R7 among the protagonists of group A.

On Wednesday 3 May there will be the first of the Latin American team when they play against the Chinese candidate Bilibili Gaming Pingan Bank (BLG) the second match of the day to the best of three. In the other key, the Golden Guardians will take on GAM Esports.

The first round of Group B was played this Tuesday with victories by G2 Esports and PSG Talon against Loud and Detonation Focus Me, 2-0 respectively. The winners will face off again on Thursday 4 May, while the losers will do so the following day.

The group stage will then progress to the best-of-five series. There they will enter the box top 5 of the main regions and those who prevailed in the play-in. Crosses will, of course, be determined by a draw. These matches will also start at 9 in Argentina.

Finally, the semifinal and final of the MSI which will determine the champion will change the calendar to 8 in our country.

The games, on the other hand, take place with the public in attendance at the London Arena copper box, United Kingdom. This stadium has hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics and many eSports tournaments over its 10-year history.
