The theme for Snap’s Partner Summit is Back to Reality (return to reality), which reflects the company’s focus in recent years on augmented reality (AR), a type of technology that enhances photos, videos, or the real-world experience using computerized devices. picture.

We believe there is a huge opportunity to develop tools that are connected to what we see in front of ussaid Bobby Murphy, co-founder and chief technology officer at Snap, in an interview with Reuters news agency.

Snap will launch a new feature called get dressed (Dress Up) on Snapchat, where users can browse augmented reality shopping filters that let them virtually try on clothes and accessories.

To make life easier for augmented reality developers, Snap will start offering them a series of free services, such as data storage. Until now, photo filters and lenses had to be simple and compact in terms of file size in order to quickly upload them to the app.

With more storage space, IT development companies can create more complex augmented reality experiences, according to Bobby Murphy. For example, an augmented reality garden could include 3D models of more flowers and plants, he says.

Snap also released a pocket camera, called the Pixy. The gadget can notably fly a few meters above the heads of its owners to take photos and videos, before landing in the palm of the hand.

The Pixy costs 230 US dollars (294 Canadian dollars) and will only be sold in the United States and France, according to Snap.

Snapchat continues to grow with over 600 million monthly users worldwide, up from 500 million last year.
