Elon Musk revealed surprising data about Telepathy, the first Neuralink brain chip implanted in a human. The American tycoon assured that the first patient was able to do it move the computer cursor with thought.
“It appears the patient has fully recovered (from the implant) no negative effects“Musk said in an interview broadcast on his platform Xformerly known as Twitter.
Furthermore, it is capable of “move the mouse cursor around the screen just by thinking“, revealed.
“We try to make sure that as many button presses as possible come from thought,” the tycoon added. “You want to have, obviously, more than two buttons“.
How Telepathy works, the Neuralink brain chip
Neuralink’s revolutionary technology works through a device from size of five coins stacked which is placed inside the human brain using an invasive surgery.
The “start-up”, co-founded by Musk in 2016, aims to build direct communication channels between brain and computer.
So far, brain implants have only been developed in one direction: from the brain outwards (usually a computer that processes the signals), but the Neuralink project aims to succeed also transfer information in the opposite directiontowards the brain.
The company’s ambition is to enhance human capabilities, treat neurological disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Parkinson’s disease and, perhaps one day, reach a symbiotic relationship between man and artificial intelligence.
The startup Neuralink has managed to focus specifically on designing implants for humans that can do this interpret brain signals in order to control different technologies and so that people who have lost senses such as sight, touch or speech can recover them.
Recently the company clarified that they are working in parallel with two types of systemsone per restore your sight “even in those who have never had it” and another to restore basic bodily functions people with paralysis due to damage to the spinal cord.
Neuralink began recruiting patients for its first human clinical trial in the fall, after receiving approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May.
In 2021, Neuralink released a video on YouTube featuring a monkey with a chip implanted in his brain playing a video game which was controlled by the mind.

Elon Musk’s company continued its tests after working with pigs.
In the video, lasting three and a half minutes, the monkey Pagernine years old, he plays a version of the classic video game Pong and every time he succeeds he receives as compensation a banana smoothie delivered to him through a straw.
A few months earlier, Neuralink had successfully tested pigs a chip which, implanted in the skull, allowed the brain activity of animals to be measured.
Moss isn’t the only one trying to advance this field, officially known as brain-machine interface or brain-computer research.
After several delays, the tycoon reportedly attempted to join forces with the plant’s developer Synchronized. That company, based in Australia, implanted its first device in a U.S. patient in July 2022.
