Why do I appear online on WhatsApp if I’m not?

It is possible that even if a contact is listed as “on line” I didn’t see the messages. It may also happen that it appears online even if you have stopped using the app.

Whatsapp explains that “last time information indicates the time the contact last used the service.” He adds that “in your privacy settings, you can choose to show or hide your last seen time and online status. If a person doesn’t have you in their contacts or if they’ve never chatted before, you won’t be able to see their last time and online status.”

If a person doesn’t see the last viewed information or online status of a contact, one of the following situations may occur. That the contact has configured their privacy settings to hide that information or that you have configured your privacy settings not to share your information last (if you don’t share it, you won’t be able to see anyone else’s information either ).

Other possibilities: that the contact has blocked you; who had never chatted; that the contact does not have your number saved among their contacts or vice versa.

As for the stay on line when you stop using WhatsApp This is an “error” that occurs because the application works in the background to perform some functions, such as making backups.

An article in La Vanguardia explains that “this error has been occurring for several years now and has a logical explanation”. And he adds: “The application is not only dedicated to sending messages, because it also performs backups, encryption and a large number of details that sometimes we don’t even realize are being performed.”

“In one of these processes, even if we are not connected, it may be that the people who enter our chat appear online. The reason for this situation is that the application continues to be backed up and saved, despite not being on WhatsApp”says the Barcelona newspaper.

This way, for some users, that person will still be connected WhatsApp for some time, but it doesn’t respond to messages because you no longer use the app. According to the Fayerwayer website, the period of “apparent connection” lasts between 15 and 30 seconds. If the connection to Wifi is slow, the number of seconds may increase because the app will take longer to perform backups and other actions.

To avoid this situation, once you exit the instant messaging application, you need to go to Settings, Applications and WhatsApp. Click Force Quit so that all processes end completely.
