UBA’s Faculty of Law has launched its own metaverse
The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) which launched its own on Thursday metaversea digital space whose stage is the Law school and that resembles a video game, where students are able to explore spaces, read, interact with each other about pedagogical content and communicate with their teachers through of graphic characters, called avatars.
It’s like a trailer of an animated film, an avatar walks around the sculpture of Floralis Generica, in the United Nations plaza, and then goes up the stairs of the educational institution, where he enters and meets another man who told him: “In the Metaverse we also have rights.” This is just a small sample of new interactive world presented this afternoon in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Law.
This is a new paradigm that opens up Diploma in Metaverse and Gaming dictated by UBA’s Laboratory of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (Ialab), an exercise that will address the topic from a variety of approaches: the technologies and job opportunities this world presents to ethical questions and challenges in regulation.
The classroom will be the metaverse, the scenario that will try to teach. “We developed a metaverse to explain the metaverse, and it was an experience not available at any university in Latin America”, featured Juan Corvalán, director of training at Ialab, in an interview with Télam.
The challenge of this diploma course is to develop a “pedagogical transformation strategy in the way of analysis and reading, so that it becomes more interactive and immersive”.
UBA launched its own Metaverse with a unique experience for the region
As he explained, this first version of the metaverse “was a pilot test“and” the idea is to transfer it later to other content and other UBA faculty.
During the presentation, there were references that responded to different approaches to this universe. One of them is Lee Ulmanndirector for Latin America of the School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who considered “well that UBA has entered this world“, although he stressed the importance of” constantly thinking about the social aspect of artificial intelligence how to improve the lives of people and the planet. “
What is the metaverse and how is UBA
Then, he previewed the properties of the metaverse: “There are different ways of defining the metaverse and now it doesn’t have a finished version because it’s in development, but in general terms it’s known as a immersive universe that combines virtual and augmented realitywhere different actions can be generated (as in the physical world, for example, buying in a supermarket) and where the gateways are avatars, forming a new way through technology ”.
“Now our mode of intermediation in technology is by clicking, opening a window, mouse/joystick or talking to a machine to do something, but what the avatar does is enrich that experience“, complete.

It is a more sophisticated expression that is, in some cases, added super-realistic rendering techniques as happens with the characters of soccer players in some video games.
“In the case of the UBA we wanted to make it inclusive, so you don’t need a helmet to go through it and you can use the computer keyboard, like digital space,” he said.
People will be able to download an executable program of the first version of this metaverse to their computer, then select their avatar (designed without gender) and finally begin moving to the stage that includes Law School and around it.
