In case of iOS 16the new version of the iPhone operating system, experts predict again functions available from the lock screen and news in the messages application and in the health application.

Developers will be the first to have access to beta versions of Apple’s new operating systems, which usually take a few months to reach most users.

Furthermore, some analysts predict that this conference may be marked by advances in the field of augmented reality and virtual reality, in which Apple has been working for years but where for now it has not launched its big bets.

Apple WWDC 2022: what to expect

The iOS 16 operating system will make its presentation at the WWDC 2022 conference.

The iOS 16 operating system will make its presentation at the WWDC 2022 conference.

Although it’s a developer conference, the Cupertino-based tech firm knows its keynote is a global event. That’s why this type of June event remains only in the software.

Apple has more to show, although this time around there are few clues as to possible hardware that could see the light. Just three years ago, the Californian company presented the new Mac Pro at WWDC, which at the time was a very powerful computer for professionals.

Things have changed since then, as Apple has decided that its entire line of computers will use chips with the same architecture as that of cell phones (ARM), thus abandoning Intel processors.

The Mac Pro is the only one that hasn’t been updated yet and is now overtaken by some of the new Mac Studios with Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Ultra chips. But there may be another one that predated the Pro.

Some predictions points to a possible updated MacBook Air with a new M2 chip. This processor, not yet presented, would be the basis for future professional models, in which it would be enhanced with the Pro and Ultra versions. The presentation of the MacBook Air could hinge on supply chain problems in Asia in the wake of the pandemic, which saw massive blockages in Chinese cities until a few days ago.

In the software field, one of the most important developments that we will see this afternoon is probably related to Apple’s new steps to transform the iPad into a device that convinces more and more professionals. The new operating system iPadOS 16 – points out Mark Gurman, of the Bloomberg agency – could really be a lot focused on multitasking and in the possibility that the windows can be resized at will.

Another part where there would be a new feature design on the lock screen, even on iOS. The idea is that this home screen is not very useful other than to open the flashlight and camera and that users generally unlock the device to be able to see all their notifications or access widgets. Now they could do it right from the start.

One of the probable novelties, which Apple has been working on for some time, is the always-on screen for iPhone, an option that Android has had for years.

The idea of the Apple company is that the Screen refresh rate it can be, in that mode, very low, only one hertz per second, as it does in the Apple Watch. It is entirely possible that this feature will only work on the future iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. No new iPhones will be seen at this presentation. These have space on the agenda for the second week of September.

WWDCs include numerous features to be presented for each operating system. Many of them will focus health aspects, which Apple has focused on in recent years with the combination of using the Apple Watch and iPhone. Others will likely refine the ways of concentration launched last year, after a year in the hands of users.

With the iPhone awaiting the September keynote, as usual year after year, and the open possibility of the MacBook Air and Mac Pro, there are other devices that may have upcoming renewals. Among them are the AirPods Pro 2, a new iPad Pro or even a refreshed original HomePod, an exceptional quality speaker launched in 2018 and withdrawn from sale last year, replaced in the Apple catalog by the compact HomePod mini.

WWDC 2022 will be virtual, but will have a face-to-face part, after 2019, the last one before the Covid-19 pandemic, brought together some 8,000 people in San José, the vast majority of them developers.
