WhatsApp users with Android phones will be able to transfer their data protected by end-to-end encryption to an Apple phone in case they switch devices.
The feature was announced on Facebook by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a year after the reverse data transfer option from Apple to Android was announced.
The operation can be performed using the application Move to iOS, which is already used specifically for transferring contacts or text messages to an Apple phone. The functionality that allows WhatsApp data transfer is however still in trial version and is not yet fully ready to launch.
To continue the transition, the Android phone and the iPhone must be running Android 5 and iOS 15.5 operating systems respectively.
It is now possible to move a WhatsApp account from Android to Apple, but the chat history is lost. So it can be hidden, but if the data is already on the Apple phone, the Android data transfer will overwrite it with new ones.
