The platform wants to help users better compartmentalize their online relationships, all with a view to reigniting enthusiasm for the social network.

After losing momentum for a few months, Facebook is looking for new ways to generate interest in its social network. The platform is currently testing the ability for users to create multiple profiles for a single account, reports the US channel CNN.

According to information from Bloomberg, users will be able to create up to five different profiles, all of which will be linked to the main account. The usual Facebook terms of use apply to all these profiles.

Adapt profiles

In fact, the user can use different profiles to compartmentalize according to their activities or center of interests. A person can have, for example, a profile dedicated to his friends, another to his professional relationships, or even another dedicated to an activity that he practices.

A function quite similar to the one we already found on Instagram: the network allows you to switch accounts with just a few clicks.

However, only the main account will be able to interact, i.e. comment or like the posts. Specifically, it’s more about having five different news channels than five different online identities.

Also, even if a person has five different profiles, they will only be counted as one user. This feature is currently in testing and Facebook has not specified when or where it will be operational.

If Facebook has always been quite strict about having multiple accounts, this novelty is no coincidence. Faced with strong competitors, including TikTok in the lead, Facebook tries to encourage users to stay on its platform: in early February, the social network suffered a severe blow on the stock market after announcing the loss of one million users.
