The video streaming platform has partnered with Shopify to invite its stars to sell products, especially during live streams.

The YouTube video platform materializes its e-commerce offer, inaugurated by a partnership with the company Shopify, specialized in e-commerce. The company, owned by Google, announced the launch of YouTube Shopping this Tuesday, July 19, for users around the world.

This novelty will be presented in three different ways. First, through live video, called “YouTube Live,” where users can pin objects at certain times during their live broadcast. This new feature is currently only available to US, Brazilian, and Indian users, but should roll out to other countries, including France, in the coming months.

Additionally, video creators can now add a “shop” tab to their page to offer products for sale directly on YouTube. This is already the case for some users cited by YouTube, such as Toopet, which offers objects and plants related to the world of animal husbandry for sale. This feature is available in a large number of countries, including France.

Finally, the third possibility is a dedicated section below the published videos, with a list of products selected by the host of the channel.

Obviously, selling online is not for everyone. On its website, YouTube states that only channels with more than 1,000 subscribers can use YouTube Shopping. If these channels are categorized as “Kids” or if they have already received a series of warnings, they will also not be able to enjoy it.

Online commerce attempts are multiplying on social networks, but not all attempts are conclusive. TikTok announced a few days ago that it would stop rolling out its live shopping project in France, and in Europe, due to insufficiently enthusiastic feedback during tests conducted in the UK.
