Operating in the immersive technology sector, the small American company accuses the social media giant of “flagrant acts of unfair competition.” She filed a complaint.

The word “Meta” is now more or less in the mind as the new name of the Facebook group. Wanting to highlight its idea of the “metaverse”, Facebook announced its identity change at the end of October 2021, while the company was in the midst of a media uproar.

But this name, if it corresponds to the ambitions of the giant of social networks, is not exclusive to him. An American company of the same name attacked it in court on Tuesday, July 19, for having rebranded itself as such.

unfair competition

The complaint states that Facebook is “producing what META has produced for more than a decade under its own name, creating the same immersive experiences, at the same events and conferences, working with the same developers and companies.”

The company thus accuses Facebook of unfair competition, relying on its ten years of experience in the field, and alliances with renowned companies such as Twitter, Spotify, Microsoft and Google. The trial must begin soon.

Questioned by several US media, including the specialized site The Verge, Facebook has not yet responded.
