Mark Zuckerberg had warned, now it’s a reality: Facebook is now mimicking TikTok by relying more on content suggested by its recommendation algorithms. As a result, the Facebook home page is no longer a social network, but is now described as a “discovery engine,” in the company’s words in a press release.
The platform is thus rolling out a new version of its app, worldwide, that removes the old news feed. The main tab is now called “Home”. As soon as a person opens your app, they’ll discover completely machine-curated content, whether it’s from followed accounts or completely unknown. In his account, Mark Zuckerberg gave an overview of this update.
“Post feed”
As was done with Instagram, Facebook will therefore relegate the posts of people followed to the background.
To satisfy users who still want to access their friends’ posts, the platform announces the creation of a new tab called “Post Thread”. Everyone will be able to follow the people, groups or pages to which they are subscribed, and this in a chronological way.
From the home screen, click on a new dedicated icon to access it. This option should appear in the shortcut bar at the bottom of the app on iOS and at the top of the app on Android.
The company, whose shares have plummeted in recent months, is facing fierce competition from TikTok, which manages to keep users on their smartphones for much longer and thus bring them more advertising.
