Warned overnight, Amazon Prime subscribers will have to pay an extra €20 in France from September 15. A decision that raised a wave of discontent.

Even with the best explanations in the world, it’s always hard to accept such a significant price increase. Amazon Prime subscribers woke up on July 26 to an email from the US giant telling them that their subscription will cost much more.

“It’s time to turn back”

In detail, the subscription in France to Amazon Prime should increase on September 15 from 49 euros to 69.90 euros per year, and from 5.99 euros to 6.99 euros per month. That’s a 43% increase for the annual formula. This measure follows the increase in fuel and cardboard prices. In fact, this weighs on the costs related to the priority delivery of purchases made on the Amazon site. The reactions are multiple, with some (unrealistic) requests to take a step back.

For others, the price increase is a good time to drop the Amazon Prime deal. BFMTV also explains how to do it, but above all how to take advantage of the current price for as long as possible.

“I’m thinking of quitting”

“We don’t lose much”

The expensive shipping argument is struggling to be accepted, particularly by subscribers who complain of delivery times longer than the promised single business day in mainland France for Amazon Prime subscribers. “When it comes to overnight delivery, you don’t lose much, it never happens,” one customer scolded on Twitter.

By unsubscribing, former users not only deprive themselves of priority delivery of their packages, but also of the Prime Video streaming service. But, again, the offer does not seem to compensate for the price increase.

Other regulars on the platform are paralleling this price increase and the expensive passion of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose other company, Blue Origin, offers manned space flights.

Netizens, however, retain a touch of humor in the annoyance, wondering if Amazon would not become Sauron. Great villain of the trilogy Lord of the Rings, he is at the origin of the creation of the rings of power. This period of author JRR Tolkien’s universe will be at the heart of the Amazon Prime series. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to discover from September 2.
