Presenting the Meta results, Mark Zuckerberg promised to at least double the display of recommendations on Facebook and Instagram.

Criticized for relegating posts from followed people to the background, Facebook and Instagram’s recommendation algorithm will take up even more space. During a conference call, Mark Zuckerberg didn’t just mention the group’s first drop in revenue. The Meta boss has also promised to give even more space to recommended content.

This release follows much criticism from Meta-owned platforms. On Facebook and Instagram, users have complained about the changes made in recent weeks. Among the criticisms, the massive arrival of video and the highlight of accounts to which they are not subscribed.

A broken original promise

Above all, social networks are criticized for wanting to copy TikTok by moving away from its original proposal. A particularly visible phenomenon on Instagram, the initial promise of photo sharing is broken with the appearance of more and more videos. A transition perfectly assumed by the leader of the social network, Adam Mosseri.

And for those who complain about seeing their friends’ posts disappear, Mark Zuckerberg again defends this choice. He thus evokes a transformation in the way users interact on social networks.

This change in use would therefore be the reason why the use of recommendation AI is favored on Facebook and Instagram. As explained by the head of Instagram, this should make the experience on the platforms more pleasant and entertaining. But also, according to Mark Zuckerberg, therefore more interactive.
