After the death of Diego Maradona, legal fights followed (and continue to take place). One of these, which remains unsolved, has to do with the use of the image rights of the Ten. However, in the last few hours there has been a claim that has materialized: after so many twists, the best player in history will return to be present, in the form of a letter and legend, in the FIFA 22, EA Sports’ star game.

After almost two years of twists and turns, justice has ruled in favor of the video game development company and, based on a contract signed in 2017 by Maradona himself, Diego will again be present at FIFA. The sentence respects the will of the former captain of the Argentine national team, who had signed a perpetual bond.

The amendment to the sentence was made by Chamber 1 of the Federal Civil and Commercial Chamber and it is closely related to Maradona’s manifest desire at the time of signing the contract.

The contract, signed five years ago, stated the following: “Upon expiration of the term … EA will have the right to complete development and continue to manufacture, market and distribute any licensed Product, packaging, marketing and promotional material that has been marketed.” for the first time during the term of this contract, in perpetuity “. Since Diego has stamped his signature, justice will respect his word.

Maradona’s image has just disappeared from last year’s popular football video game: the FIFA 21. This had to do with a lawsuit by the Sattvic society, owned by the lawyer Matías Morla. The resolution, at the time, forced EA to refrain from using the image of Ten.

The company was unable to use Maradona’s image in its best-selling game, but still surprised by adding Diego to FIFA 22. This only lasted a few months and in March Electronic Arts deleted him from its football player catalog. . The dispute has gone through several instances, and the final sentence, issued in the last few hours, has been cataloged by many as “unpublished”.

Diego's letter would be put back into play for the next edition.

EA Sports has also been authorized to initiate legal actions against Stefano Ceci, the Italian partner of the star. It is that in the sentence, which bears the signature of the waitresses Florencia Nallar, Juan Perozziello Visir and Fernando Uriarte, it is also clear that the contract signed by Ceci, a former friend of Diego, is not valid because it has not been ratified by Sattvica, owner of the brand Maradona, but also underline that the company cannot go against that will of the player.

On the basis of this foundation, the Justice has held that Ceci can be accused of “fraud” as the entrepreneur would have been recognized, to sign the agreement, rights that he presumably did not have.

In short, this new ruling allowed the California-based company to use Maradona’s image – for the purposes specified in the original contract – from now on. Therefore, it is clear that FIFA 23 will be able to count on Diego’s letter right from its launch. Less than two months before his departure, Will they have the Pelusa letter ready?
