The new version of the operating system for Apple phones brings back a feature lost since 2017: the display of the remaining battery percentage.

Unveiled in June during WWDC, iOS 16 is currently in beta. Users who already have this new version of the iPhone operating system in their hands are constantly discovering the functions that will be available to everyone starting in the fall.

Built directly into the future iPhone 14, iOS 16 not only offers new possibilities. The upcoming OS will track the percentage of battery remaining in the iPhone’s status bar, CNBC says.

An option removed in 2017

This feature had disappeared in 2017 when the company launched the iPhone X. The phone was the first to receive the black notch, since it was implemented on the computer, which integrates a speaker and the front camera lens. With this addition, Apple had to overhaul its status bar at the top of its phones. The choice was then to remove the option to show the percentage of battery remaining.

At the moment, the return of the functionality is only present in the developer beta, but it should come to the public beta soon. But contacted by US media, an Apple spokesperson could not immediately confirm that this screen will be present in the final version of iOS 16.

“It shouldn’t take five years for Apple”

On Twitter, the journalist Sami Fatibrand specialist for the MacRumors site, wonders about the five-year wait before being able to benefit from the battery level indication again.

Among the new features that iOS 16 brings, iPhone owners will be able to fully customize their lock screen. The writing font of the time or the color of the text will be remarkably modifiable. It will be possible to edit the messages sent too quickly or disable the sharing of device data in case of theft.

Also, in terms of inclusion, users will choose how the device speaks to them. Options offer feminine, masculine, neutral, but also unspecified gender.
