Snapchat launches “Family Center”, a parental control tool that allows parents to monitor their children’s activity and dating on the social network.

She has finally arrived. Announced last October, Snapchat officially launches a parental control feature called “Family Center” this Tuesday, August 9, reports TechCrunch.

This novelty, which is aimed at parents and their children aged 13 to 18, should allow the former to have better visibility into how the latter use the application.

Monitor without compromising privacy

In fact, after activating this option, adults will be able to see the accounts to which their child has sent messages, photos or videos during the last seven days. However, they will not be aware of the content of the exchanges.

“Family Center” also gives you the ability to access your child’s friends list. If necessary, parents can report possible abuse or profiles they find suspicious to the Snapchat Safety team. To activate this surveillance system, adults will need to install Snapchat on their own smartphone and link their personal account to their child’s.

Strengthen security on social networks

This update comes as Instagram, Tik Tok and even YouTube have implemented their own parental control solution under pressure from users who demand better protection for minors on the various social networks.

For good reason, internal documents, published online by the Wall Street Journal last year, detailed Instagram’s ill effects on teens, forcing the Facebook subsidiary to react. In this context, Snapchat should, on the occasion of a future update, expand the “Family Center” with new control options.
