Artificial intelligence systems to convert a word or text into an image are on the rise. As a test, this feature is now available on TikTok for creators who want to produce viral content.
This tool, called the artificial intelligence Greescreen, allows users to enter a word that the software will transform into an image that can be used as a background for a video, The Verge reports.
Violence and nudity on the blacklist
The rendering offered by TikTok’s artificial intelligence is fairly basic compared to state-of-the-art text-to-image systems like Google Image, OpenAI’s DALL-E 2, or Midjourney’s software of the same name. The images produced are generally abstract. A limit that may well be intentional.
In fact, more advanced AI would require more computing power, which would be costly for TikTok, and would require significant resources to implement in the app. Second, TikTok has over a billion users and the ability to create photorealistic images from your imagination could produce some disturbing results.
However, Greenscreen severely limits the ability to create illustrations that are violent or feature nudity. According to The Verge, images based on this type of request, such as “nude model on the beach,” are metaphysical with color renderings tailored to the theme (beige, orange, etc.). But nothing that could evoke a man or a woman dressed as Adam.
