Silent on its sales figures since 2016, the computer giant indicated in an official document that its rival Sony had surpassed it in the latest generation of game consoles.

For several weeks, competition authorities have been investigating the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. Given the fears of video game companies such as Sony -the manufacturer of the PlayStation- or Riot Games, the computer giant tries to minimize the consequences of its takeover.

The investigation by Brazil’s national competition regulator has led to the publication of a document in which Microsoft responds to the concerns raised. Spotted by GameLuster, the document provides a lot of information. In particular, it provides an overview of the number of game consoles sold by Microsoft, the manufacturer of Xbox.

No sales figures since 2016

The latest generation of consoles was released in November 2013. Microsoft introduces the Xbox One while Sony launches the PlayStation 4. These two consoles displayed opposite philosophies: the PlayStation 4 focused on gaming, while the Xbox One introduced gaming features . Kotaku recalls. Microsoft quickly saw that Sony was gaining the upper hand in the sales game.

This superiority of the Japanese manufacturer even led the American giant to stop communicating its sales figures in 2016. However, the document from the Brazilian competition regulator gives details about these data kept secret.

With a PlayStation 4 sold at 117 million copies, the ratio revealed by Microsoft would take Xbox One sales to less than 58 million. In reality, this figure would be around 55 million according to the latest estimates by industry analysts. And even if analyst projections were good, this is the first time Microsoft has released an indication of its console sales in six years.
