Netflix recently announced a new, lower-cost, ad-enabled subscription system that is expected to be available in early 2023. New details about the device have been revealed by developer Steve Moser, who analyzed the code of the Netflix iPhone app. The Bloomberg media transmitted the information this Wednesday, August 17.
First, it will be impossible to download content with this subscription. Being able to download content on Netflix allows you to watch it on your own without having an internet connection, on the train or on the plane for example.
On the other hand, the presence of targeted advertising seems to materialize. Steve Moser discovered text in the application code that offered the user to set their preferences for these targeted ads. To manage this device, Netflix has entered into a partnership with Microsoft.
These new features reinforce the idea that Netflix wants to make this new subscription a less advantageous version of its “classic” subscriptions.
The company had already announced that the catalog of this subscription would be less supplied in series and movies, without mentioning the possibility of completing it in the long term.

The subscription should not see the light for a few months, it is still possible that Netflix will evolve to the final version.
Currently Netflix is going through a bad financial streak, since historically its number of subscribers has been reduced by more than one million people in this year 2022. In this context, the platform is looking for new ways to retain subscribers, such as this subscription at a lower cost.
