The Snapchat social network, through its CEO Evan Spiegel, has announced that it does not want to develop a future version of its Pixy drone. The product, presented at the end of April, does not seem to have had the expected success.
It was during a question-and-answer exercise, to which the CEO is on loan to his employees, that he announced “the cessation of product development,” reports the American media. Wall Street Journal This Thursday, August 18.
Specifically, no other version will be developed, contrary to what Evan Spiegel had suggested during an interview with the US media The Verge.
A flawed gadget
Described as a “selfie drone,” the rectangular-shaped, yellow-colored device allows photos to be taken remotely, flying around its user. Sold at a price of 250 euros, Pixy had not convinced the editorial staff of Tech & Co.
Noisy, unstable and low on battery, the drone is primarily intended for young users of the Snapchat app, which is required for its operation.
The company had initially announced that it wanted to sell only a limited number of products, only on the official website, and in a small number of countries, including France.
Pixy is currently available for purchase, and should always be while supplies last, always according to the Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, Snapchat shares plunged in July as the company posted its weakest results since its inception.
Despite its desire to diversify its offerings, Snapchat fails to seduce its audience with the devices it presents. Before Pixy’s failure, the social network had marketed a pair of connected glasses, called Spectacles, which had had very poor sales.
