A screen that adapts to your wishes and your situation. It is the dream of all video game players, but also of video content lovers who seek immersion. On the occasion of Gamescom, the video game fair in Cologne, Corsair presented the Xeneon Flex. Behind this strange name, a screen dedicated to video games that shows a peculiarity: it is incurable as desired.
The specialist in equipment and accessories for video games has teamed up with LG Display, the subsidiary of the South Korean firm specializing in all types of screens, to design this world premiere. Because the Xeneon Flex is a 45-inch OLED HDR panel in 21:9 format initially flat, but with retractable handles on each side to be able to bend manually.
An easily curved screen
Connected to a computer or console, this curved screen technology will have the effect of making the content displayed for the person in front of it more immersive. This will be particularly interesting for fans of racing games or shooting games who need to have their eyes everywhere around them in a more natural way, but also for image professionals. Because the curved format would allow a viewing angle of up to 178° and a screen that automatically readjusts to the new design.
The screen is extremely thin, but quite wide (just over a meter long). If its position is not adjustable in height, a handle located under the lower edge allows it to be tilted in any circumstance.
It’s easy enough, even for a small build, to grab the handles on the side to curve the screen to your desired angle (up to 800R curve) effortlessly. One click lets you know when the slab has been perfectly flattened so you don’t have to force it. Corsair advertises up to 10,000 possible “curves”.
The Xeneon Flex does not lose its brilliant panel quality (1000 nits maximum), with a refresh rate of 240 Hz. Corsair simply promises “the best gaming panel on the market” (supports Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync premium technologies). ). ). The screen obviously has an anti-reflective coating and a dead pixel prevention system to prevent black spots in the image.
A world first that you have to pay for
The Xeneon Flex relies on a large number of connectors placed on its foot so as not to thicken the slab and leave its trump card flexible (four USB-A ports, two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, one headphone jack).
Corsair’s Xeneon Flex will be available in late 2022 or early 2023 at a price that has yet to be announced. But as for the best screens available on the market like the Samsung Odyssey Ark, the latest version of which was also presented at Gamescom. This shows a 55-inch fixed curved screen up to 1000R and that can be put in a vertical position, but with only a 160Hz refresh rate that offers less fluidity for gaming. It is advertised at 2999 euros.
With a smaller screen size, “the most requested format”, justifies LG, the manufacturer of the panels, the Corsair Xeneon Flex should be displayed around 2000 euros.
