SNCF says its particularly criticized SNCF Connect app cost just under €25 million. Contacted by Tech&Co this Friday, August 26, the company denies the figures advanced the day before by the magazine Capitalor 50 million euros.
reduced cost
The 50 million euros announced by Capital they are distributed as follows: 20.9 million euros were dedicated to “own technologies”, of which 12.6 million were dedicated to the site and the application. In fact, SNCF has chosen to develop its application in-house rather than looking for an external solution. Then comes an advertising campaign of around 5 million euros.
Next, SNCF Connect now works with Amazon Web Services, the cloud solution (online storage system) of the giant Amazon. This transfer cost the company 7.5 million euros, and the dismantling of the old servers 2.3 million. The purchase of technologies from SNCF Voyageurs cost 2.7 million. At the same time, the “breach of contract” with his former partner, the Expedia company, which would have cost him 12.3 million euros. This means, therefore, a total of 50.7 million euros.
However, according to SNCF contacted by Tech & Co, the cloud-related investments and breach of contract with Expedia were made upstream of the app project, and also based on projects that are independent of it. Therefore, the SNCF defends itself from these calculations, which it affirms beyond the exact costs spent for the application.
Investments made before
Specifically, subtracting the 25.2 million corresponding to these investments, the total cost of the application is rather of the order of just under 30 million euros.
“These are investments anticipated and consistent with the business volumes we handle.” In figures, the company advances “33 million tickets sold this summer thanks to SNCF Connect, compared to 135 million for all of 2021”.
