A few weeks ago, Netflix confirmed the arrival of a new, less expensive, ad-supported subscription offer. According to the latest information published by bloomberg, the price of this service could be set between 7 and 9 dollars. The American media recalls that the price of the platform’s “Standard” subscription amounts to $15.49 per month in the United States.
This comparison indicates that the offer would include content in HD, unlike the “Essential” subscription (8.99 euros in France), which only offers content in low definition, on a single screen. In France, where the “Standard” subscription costs 13.49 euros, prices could range between 6 and 8 euros, if Netflix kept the same proportions.
In his article, Bloomberg also reveals additional details about the application of advertisements during the viewing of the program. Netflix reportedly aims to deliver approximately four minutes of advertising per hour of content viewed. These ads would be present at the beginning and in the middle of the programs, but not at the end.
Stop subscriber drop
However, the video streaming giant does not plan to include ads in its children’s content or in its original productions. The company reportedly plans to present its discounted offer for the last quarter of 2022.
With this formula, the platform, which lost almost a million subscribers in the second quarter, tries to raise the bar by attracting subscribers willing to watch some ads in exchange for a cheaper monthly fee and limited features.
In fact, it will be impossible to download content with this subscription. In addition, the streaming giant has announced that all the content that is currently on its platform will not be able to be offered under this formula. Netflix launches into advertising and lowers its prices at a time when Disney +, its biggest rival, increases the price of its main offer.
